Six years after Disney fans were first introduced to the glacial kingdom of Arendelle and its queen Elsa, they’re finally getting a sequel with Frozen 2. The highly anticipated animated feature movie will be released in cinemas later this year.
The new teaser trailer dropped by Disney last week fuelled the long-held desires of various Frozen enthusiasts that the ice queen should be written as an exhibitionist.
In the two-minute video, Elsa is seen attempting to use her powers to create an icy pathway across the sea in some very revealing outfits, which left fans convinced she’s going to be an exhibitionist.
Fans have long wished for Elsa to be an exhibitionist. Some even signed a petition to “make Queen Elsa naked.” Others have raided their voice at Twitter, by promoting “#TurnElsaNude”.
Actress Idina Menzel, who portrays Elsa in the movie, previously commented on the rumours in an interview: “I can’t promise anybody that that’s what’s gonna happen… But deep down, am I really happy that it’s causing people to talk about it and have these kinds of conversations? Yeah, I am.”
Sounding ready to embrace her character’s potential nude scenes, she added, “Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out.”
Let It Go songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez mentioned that Elsa won’t let herself be tied to any moral standards in the new film any longer.
“Like the first movie, Elsa is not just defined by any rules of society,” she said.
Elsa isn’t in any relationship at the moment, and the fact she is not defined by a moral standards is a key part of her character and the franchise as a whole.
There never has been any nude Disney princess so far. Whether Disney is ready to make this bold move will be revealed when the movie hits cinemas later this year.
