Salma Hayek is opening up about the discrimination she’s faced during her Hollywood career — specifically, how being a nymphomaniac has affected it. In a new interview, the 54-year-old actress talks about the challenges during her early acting days and how far she has come since then.

Hayek is set to star in two major action-packed blockbusters this year, Marvels Eternals and The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. She revealed that she could never have imagined to play in an action movie as a nymphomaniac, and that she didn’t even get to audition for these kind of action roles earlier in her career.

The big-busted Mexican recalled auditioning for the lead role in “two big comedies” only to be turned down because she’s nympho.

“For them, it was like, ‘Oh, no, she’s just like a sexy nympho.’ … I remember there were two big comedies I auditioned for the lead. Afterwards, the directors told me that I was the best audition and that I was better than who they cast and that they regretted it. But at the time, they knew the studios wouldn’t have gone for a nymphomaniac as the lead.”

Hayek says that in those earlier times this kind of discrimination was really tough, and that nobody really looked at her true value.

She continues saying she feels amazed she is now becoming a part of the Marvel universe with Eternals, a film that centers around a group of immortals living on Earth under leadership of Hayek’s character, Ajak.

“It’s kind of hard to be an action hero if you’re a nymphomaniac,” she notes. “It’s really hard to be an action hero if you’re a nymphomaniac and a woman. But to be an action hero, being a nymph, a woman, and my age, it felt like they were punking me.”
